Valkyrie/ Saving Private Ryan

1. I didn't watch all of Valkyrie ,but I have seen it all before. In my own opinion I don't think it's very good. I just don't think Tom Cruise protrays his character acuratlly. However, I think the concept of the plan was well thoguht out, and it just so happend that they caught a string of bad luck that costed them their lives.

2. I really enjoyed watching Saving Private Ryan! I have seen this movie many times ,and I could watch the invasion on Normandy all day. I think the effects, acting, and camera work are all great. I also think it's very accurate when it comes to the beach storming as well.

The reading

I read the packet we got on Wednesday night ,and I must say I was very impressed. This packet kept me entertained ,and I thought it showed great depth about the walks and the terror that happend. I also thought it was nuts with the pile of bodies at the end. All in all cool story ,and i enjoyed it.

Germany is Cocky.

I think that Germans are very cocky. If you look at there past war ways, they always have good ideas ,and that makes them feel like they will never be stopped. Hitler walks around like he owns the world. Now his plans are good ,but they aren't spectacular. When the Germans attack Russia, they have a good idea ,but it doesn't play out the way they want. They were overwhelmed by the Russian army ,and they couldn't last in the Russian climate. They have good leaders, good plans, and a great supply of weapons. However, they just can't ever seem to strike the final blow. To me the Germans have lost to signifigance parts of WW2. The Blitzkreig and the Russian attack. Germany must finish the job, or they'll suffer losing the war, once again.

Pacific Question Number 5

I don't think either side can claim their morals. The Japaneese would never be able to get over what they did at Pearl Harobr. They murdered thousands of men ,and left thousands wounded. At the same time I don't feel that the Americans can forgive themselves either. As we saw in The Pacific, if given the chance to give a Japaneese member a slow and painful death, they would do it. Both sides did terriable acts that can not ,and will never be forgotten.

Japanese Camps?

I think that the government was very wrong for what the did to the japanese civilians. All though I think it's wrong, I can easily see where they are coming from. Back in the day there was loads of prejudice and cultural differences. So I am saying that they didn't really know it was wrong. If this happend today there would be lawsuits and hate crimes galore. All in all it's very wrong to punish one group just because members of their group create an act of mediocrity. Punish the guilty and let the innocent be.

The London Attacks

After watching the first two parts of the video, I was in shock. I was in shock that the Germans completley destroyed London, and they destroyed them so badly that they were on the brink of London burning to the ground. I was in shock that the Bristish people had young men at the ages of 17 and 18 stopping the fires. All in all these first two phases were just totally barbaric. My final question is, why did they not continue with phase three?

Should WW2 have happend?

In World Wars we talked about if WW2 was even necessary. I personally feel it was going to happen no matter what. I feel there are two man reasons that the war started. 1. The Treaty of Versailles was very unfair towards the Germans ,and they just weren't going to stand for it anymore. 2. I think that once Hitler took over Czechoslovakia, that really made the British go to war and so they did.

Father of the Year!

After reading about Stalin,Mussolini, and Good ole Aldof. I think we all realized two things. One, they're crazy and affected the world in ways that nobody could imagine. Two, they may have gotten there bad habits from their Papas. I mean look closely. Beating moms, alcholics, very strict lifestyles. I think it's oblvious that the parenting had some sortof affect on their children.

The Treaty.

After reading the Treaty of Versailles I felt that it was somewhat fair. I feel that the Germans needed to be tought a valid lesson ,and they were. But, I do feel that the lesson should be aimes more towards the German Government ,and not so much the innocent German civilians. I feel if the civilians are punished they may become full of agression and feel the need to attack and start another war.

Man those Germans aren't the brightest.

As the war was starting to wrap itself up the Germans had a golden oppurtunity to totally demolish the French and rightfully say they had won the war. However, they got pretty cocky and ended up losing all their slients and getting pushed back to their original starting point. Now they couldn't control losing all their allies ,but at the same time they shouldn't have gone for so much land. All in all they could've played it safer ,and I truly think that if they were safer they may have won the war.

Gotta love that Trench Warfare!

Today in World Wars we got to see a video reenactment of the Battle of Passchendaele. I thought the video itself was very informative. Even though that ending was totally unrealistic, it was still a very good film. I liked the way that the director showed the fight scenes ,and how he got an up close shot at all the hand to hand combat. I was talking with my table mate Brian Berger ,and we both felt that you don't here as much about WW1 as you would WW2. Now I know that WW2 has a bigger impact on people ,but at the same time I wish more people knew about some of these terriable battles ,and maybe not so much about the WW2 Holocaust.

What's going throught the Turk's head?

Today in World Wars we rapped up the Armanian Genocide. Now once I was told that even to this day the Turks denied any type of genocide, I was totally shocked. I mean a genocide is defined a mass killing of a particular group (armanians) or a particular religion (christian). Now for the Turks to deny this infuriates me to no end. Then I heard even if you speak of it you could end up in jail. So all in all the Turks are bluffing big time ,and they should be known as a country who created a genocide!

World Wars Movie Questions

Question One- I think it was a Global War because many many people were affected by it. Families were destroyed and demolished forever. The blame should be put on Germany since they wanted to open the war up even more. Many countries not even fighting were destroyed.

Question 2- One reason why they wanted to destroy Britain was so once they destroyed them they could get rid of them easily. You could tell they were heading for Britain when thay attempted to capture the Suez Canal. All in all the Germans wanted to demolish and crumble the British Empire once and for all.

Today in World Wars we read a graphic novel called It Was the War of the Trenches.  I felt that it was a very good story ,and that it gave you a very in depth look of life in the trenches.  Even though some of the pictures weren't enjoyable the story itself was very good. I also thought the character depth on Binet was very well done. All in all this was a very good story ,and now I definently feel that it indeed was the War of the Trenches.

Today in World Wars we learned about the tensions that lead up to World War One. I feal that most of the blame leading up to WW1 should go to A-H (Austria Hungary). If they didn't have so many problems with the Serbians and they weren't having difficulties with ohter countries they would've never gone to war!

Otto Van Bismarck is just a mad man! But at the same time he's done some good and bad things. So the question is would he be considered a villian or a good guy in the history books?

No more World Wars!

The only thing that would create another World War is two countries that have been against eachother for a really long time and deicde to take extreme measurements and go to war!
